Abandonment, which is known as “discontinuance” in the Canadian federal regulatory regime, involves a process that can take several years to complete.

CN intends to abandon 200 miles of the British Columbia Railway
CN published its intention to discontinue 193.50 miles of the Takla Subdivision, from Mile 79.80, a few miles north of Fort St. James, in northern British Columbia, to Mile 273.30, the station name Minaret. The Takla Subdivision is a remnant of the never completed Dease Lake Extension.
Fix It Friday - CN GMD1 Splits a Switch at Sarcee Yard
GMD1 1074 had apparently accomplished the feat in a WB move through the points, and was grounded. Three flags covered the approaches to the site, and you can see how much pull the moving locomotive applied to the ties as it caught the north rail on the wrong side.
CN Drummondville Sub Shut Down by Bridge Damage
As a result of spring thaw, an ice flow struck a railway bridge located on CN Rail's Drummondville Subdivision approximately 1 mile west of Charny, Quebec. As a consequence of this incident, which occurred at 06:40 EDT on Tuesday April 5, the bridge is undergoing necessary maintenance, impacting trains running between Montreal and Quebec City.
