My '79 CJ5 304 T150 3-Speed is equipped with a Cat Con. All I can say is with a Cat the vehicle does run cleaner and the smell is reduced greatly.

2016年4月22日 · legally, you have to have a catalytic converter. New vehicles you loose by removing the cat or O2 sensor issues. Older idk. The biggest gains come from more displacement. Better fuel atomization. Other than that you only gain back what you loose. Cat back larger exhaust only improves if you have a turbo or supercharger.

I don't know of any good Mom and Pop muffler shops in the city and I'm not comfortable taking my jeep to a big chain outfit.

That said, the cats back in the 70s and 80s were a lot more restrictive and ran a lot hotter than today's technology. I did the MPFI upgrade to my '83 CJ-7, which was the single best mod I've made to it.
