The Bui Dam is a 400-megawatt (540,000 hp) hydroelectric project in Ghana. It is built on the Black Volta river at the Bui Gorge, at the southern end of Bui National Park. The project was a collaboration between the government of Ghana and Sino Hydro, a Chinese state-owned construction company. Construction on the main dam began in December 2009.

The HSH facility is aimed at augmenting and preserving the Bui reservoir by the generation of solar power when complete. This will be Ghana’s first hybrid plant utilizing both solar and hydro resources to generate and supply power to the national grid.

The Bui Generating Station, located on the Black Volta River, which is the boundary between the Savannah and Bono regions, was commissioned on December 19, 2013. It has an installed capacity of 404MW from four generating units including three 133.33MW Francis Turbine Units and a 4MW Turbinette.

2014年2月10日 · Bui Dam is a gravity roller-compacted concrete dam located at the Bui National Park in Ghana. The dam generates 400MW of power and facilitates irrigation of about 30,000ha of land. Construction was initially estimated at $622m, but a cost review conducted in 2012 raised that amount by $168m.

The Bui hydroelectric project consists of a roller compacted concrete (RCC) gravity dam across the Black Volta and two Saddle Dams on the right bank to contain the reservoir. The RCC dam has a five-bay spillway arranged in the middle and a powerhouse located at the toe on the left bank.

2024年8月5日 · Ghana has launched 5 megawatts of West Africa’s largest floating solar photovoltaic plant to date. Bui Power Authority (BPA) completed the project on the Bui reservoir. The project is part of a hybrid plant that uses solar and hydro resources to generate and supply power to the national grid.

2023年8月21日 · Bui Power Authority secures groundbreaking $24m green loan for investment in and expansion of solar-hydro hybrid projects. Ghana is home to West Africa’s first floating solar farm – a 5MW facility floating on the reservoir of the Bui Hydropower Plant. New financing and ambitious plans will see that expand significantly.

BPA has completed the construction of a 5MWp Floating Solar PV System on the Bui reservoir. It is the first of its kind in the West African sub-region. The floating solar power plant is an innovative approach of using photovoltaic modules on water infrastructures to conserve the land along with increase in efficiency of the module.
