2016年7月24日 · Bucida Spinosa is native to the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, and Cuba. For those of you who aren't familiar with this species, it's a very nice one for bonsai. It grows best in full sun and does not like to be dried out - it'll drop its leaves in response to droughting.

2016年7月24日 · Sorry to have missed your question. I manage these trees appropriate to the stage of development. When you’re developing branches, grow it in full sun and in coarse soil (1/4” - 3/8”) and let the shoots grow out long.

2022年8月4日 · I adopted this Bucida Spinosa from PR back in June. Probably should have waited a while before repotting but I'm a moron and that's what us morons do, so sue me. After potting, it defoliated pretty quickly but then new small buds erupted very nicely right where you'd want them to be, But those buds failed. They turned black and dried up.

2023年5月3日 · Here in South Florida Bucida spinosa is listed as a native species, in all my travels I've only seen one tree growing naturally on Craig Key at the Mile Marker 72 bayside, in the Keys, just past Islormada, growing just above the high tide line on a giant piece of limerock that water it gets is the occasional rainfall.

2016年7月24日 · Bucida Spinosa can get really dense with foliage. The flowers are cool. But when this density of growth happens, the interior growth and lower branches will get shaded and become very weak. So, periodically, the tree must be thinned.
