This is about the original samurai Ryuma. For the zombie animated by Brook's shadow on Thriller Bark, see Ryuma (Zombie). Shimotsuki Ryuma [7] [5] was a legendary, world-famous samurai hailing from the Shimotsuki Family of Wano Country, who lived during Wano's "Country of Gold" era centuries ago.

Brook is an extremely tall skeleton dressed in formal attire complete with a top hat and cane. Standing at 266 cm (8'8½") in height, he is the second tallest member of the Straw Hat crew, having been edged out by Jinbe. Despite having no skin, he still has an afro which he says is because his hair has very strong roots.

After an intense battle that led to the roof of the mansion, Brook watched Zoro defeating Ryuma with a technique that set the zombie ablaze. With Ryuma's corpse incinerated, Brook got his shadow back.

It's not the shadow that dominates the body, it's the original owner of the body (most of the times) and the shadow is needed only for the body to function and bind it to Moria's will.

Like the title says I’m wondering how long he had the shadow. We know that his grave was ransacked by Moria 23 years before the story but how long did it take for him to get reanimated with brooks shadow?
