2021年10月1日 · As a part of the reform process, the custodianship of the Biri dam was moved to the national water authority. Consequently, farmers who had invested in the dam lost their investment. Changes in land ownership affected water use, so much that between 2007 and 2020 the dam mostly maintained water storage levels above 70%.

Biri Dam is located on the Manyame River about 120 km northwest of Harare, Zimbabwe’s capital city and approximately 20 km from Chinhoyi Town. Its surface area is 2,300 ha and has a storage capacity of 345,000 mega litres (ML).

Due to the new Water Act, Chivero reservoir will loose its priority place in the 'queue' of water rights. Once Biri dam (downstream of Chivero) is commissioned, this may decrease the yield of Chivero reservoir by as much as 10% (DWD, 1999).

Dam level records analysed showed that since 2000 to date, the dam has consistently remained above 60% of its capacity, in some years as little as less than 25% of the water in the dam being used.
