The Bell 222 is an American twin-engine light helicopter built by Bell Helicopter. The Bell 230 is an improved development with different engines and other minor changes. In the late 1960s, Bell began designing a new twin-turbine engine light helicopter. A mockup of the new helicopter was displayed in January 1974 at a helicopter convention. [2] .

The Bell 230 is a twin-engined max. ten-seat light utility helicopter produced by the US-American manufacturer Bell Helicopter Textron, produced in Mirabel, Quebec (Canada). The Bell 230 is a development of the model 222 with two Allison 250 turboshafts instead of the 222's LTS 101s plus other refinements.

Powered by two 700shp Allison 250-C30-G2 turbines driving an advanced design two-blade rotor, the Model 230 could carry up to ten people in a 3.8m 3 passenger compartment. Internal fuel capacity had been increased to 930 litres with a maximum of 1359 litres with optional fuel tanks.

The Bell 230 is a development of the model 222 with its Lycoming engines replaced by two Allison 250 turboshafts, plus other refinements including optional skid or wheel undercarriage. The prototype ( a converted 222 ) first flew on August 12, 1991.
