2008年2月24日 · Beech is a really nice wood to work, but it doesn't have much as a saw log. A while back I was looking for some think quartersawn beech to use to make wooden planes. Long story short, I couldn't find any so I bought a beech log and had it sawn.. The log cost me about $40 if I remember correctly and yielded something like 120bf.

2009年8月8日 · Spitting beech with an axe is going to be tough. I love to burn beech. But when it comes to splitting Beech your in for a workout. I think it would spit better dry. If I had to hand split Beech I would approach 1 or 2 rounds per day. If it took me a month to get the task accomplished so be it. Beech is one of the woods I bring the log splitter out.

2010年2月5日 · i have always heard beech is great wood to burn although i have never cut, split or tried to burn any until yesterday. there is a large deadfall in the woods across from my house, so i threw my ms310 on my quad and ran over there. i cut about 6 pretty good size rounds out of the trunk, threw them on the racks and went back home.

2021年10月21日 · The tougher stuff, I've noticed, had bark that seemed blighted. The healthier, smmoth-bark beech seemed to split easier. Beech is a fascinating species. It actually has tropical roots and slowly made its way north thousands of years after the last Ice Age. I've heard that that's why it clings to its leaves in winter.

2008年9月1日 · Beech is a awsome wood to burn. If cut in the early spring, split, stacked in a sunny area w/ air movement by the end of March, you have no problems burning it in December. Plus when it is completly burned there's no ash.

2007年3月14日 · Beech Firewood - Good Stuff I get alot of beech logs in my loads and I find it very good to burn. I find it cuts ok but the chips from the chain seems to be much smaller than say cutting maple or gold birch. Must be because it is harder wood. It splits easy when frozen but can be tough when you get near a branch.
Beach Blight is it still good firewood or is it too Punky?
2012年1月2日 · I love beech, It's my favorite wood. Unfortunately, once down it has the tendency to rot rather quickly. I've never burned Osage Orange or Yellow Birch, so I can not compare beech to them, but I've burned my share of oak, hickory, ash, maple, fruit etc.. and I still believe beech is superior.

2010年8月20日 · When felling we score the bark along the trunk before skidding or bucking so that that wood can 'breathe' ; then the bark will unwrap after a few months if not split. It's done for sawlogs and firewood. Sycamore, Cherry, Elms, Beech, Apple are all heliotropes. Growth will follow the sun, unlike more straight grained wood like the Ashes and Oaks.
