Bedretto (Lombard: Bidré) is a municipality and a village in the Val Bedretto, the upper most part of the river Ticino. It belongs to the district of Leventina in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland .

The BedrettoLab (Bedretto Underground Laboratory for Geosciences and Geoenergies) is a unique research infrastructure run by ETH Zurich making it possible to take a close look at the Earth’s interior.

The Val Bedretto (Bedrettotal) in the northern Ticino extends from Airolo at the foot of the Gotthard Pass up to the Nufenen Pass, where it crosses into Valais. In the long valley between the Gotthard and the Cristallina massifs there is always lots of snow. In summer, the Bedrettotal is a varied area for hiking and mountain biking.

Vorrömische Gräber (Villa) und römische Münzenfunde (Bedretto) weisen auf eine frühe Besiedelung hin. Bedretto wird 1210 erstmals urkundlich als Bedoledo, 1457 als Bedreudo erwähnt. Als 1227 die Alpen der Talschaft Leventina aufgeteilt wurden, erscheint Bedretto als Nachbarschaft und selbständige Pfarrei.

Das Val Bedretto im Nordtessin reicht von Airolo am Fuss des Gotthard-Passes bis hinauf zum Nufenenpass, dem Übergang ins Wallis. Das lang gezogene Tal zwischen Gotthard- und Cristallina-Massiv ist im Winter besonders schneereich. Im Sommer ist das Val Bedretto ein vielseitiges Wander- und Mountainbiking-Gebiet.
