The GE C40-8M is a 6-axle diesel locomotive built by GE Transportation Systems from 1990 to 1994. It is part of the GE Dash 8 Series of freight locomotives, and is often referred to as a Dash 8-40CM. Mechanically identical to the Dash 8-40CW, the Dash 8-40CM was constructed only for Canadian railways, with a production total of 84 units.

Canadian National 4618 is a GE C40-8M built by General Electric (GE) for the Canadian National Railway (CN) in April 1990 and is currently preserved at the Alberta Railway Museum. When being built in 1990, the locomotive was originally operated by BC Rail, a former Canadian railway that operated in British Columbia from 1912 to 2004.
