2015年1月25日 · I've had a variety of South Bends, an Atlas, Hardinge, Logan and a Cincinnati Tratop. Currently I have the Traytop and the Atlas (was my grandfathers). The upside of the Atlas is low cost and lots of spare parts. The Downside of the Atlas are the Zamak (zinc alloy) gears, soft flat bed ways, and lack of mass/rigidity.

2013年4月26日 · The closest readily accessible match to the original Atlas 1930's and 1940's color seems to be Rustoleum Dark Machinery Gray. Around 1950 they changed to the lighter Machinery Gray. The Craftsman machines varied from dark blue-gray to blue-green to green. But I think Atlas stuck with the same dark gray throughout the entire period.

2013年1月24日 · I currently have a Harbor Freight 8 x 12 metal lathe, but need something with a longer bed. I found an Atlas number in the gear cover is 10f-28. I haven't looked at it yet, doesn't have a quick changer gear box, has babbit bearing. The bed length I'm assuming is 48 inches, owner says it's 36 from the chuck to end of bed.

The lathe is in great original condition and came with a 3 jaw chuck, lantern style tool post holder, and a very nice tool post grinder that is probably worth several times what I paid for the lathe.
