2006年9月1日 · A lot of hearsay is wrong and posting it has a tendency to propagate it.I've made mallet heads and all kinds of stuff out of ash. I pound on it all the time with no splinters. I admired the Benchcrafted split top roubos, so I thought I’d make a slimmed down (easier on the budget) knock down version.

Both are going to be cut from logs, so both are wet lumber. I read that Beech is harder to dry because it is prone to twisting and cracking. Ash is supposed to be easier to dry, but I am not sure if I want the open grain of ash. Although I could fill the grain ...

2009年12月22日 · Ash would make a great benchtop. It's strong, resiliant, and light in color. The only possible drawback would be its open pores. If the pores are particularly large, they might collect dust and the like. However, that would only be a problem if you put the face grain up. As long as you have edge grain up on the top, that shouldn't be a problem.
