Artyom and Miller die from the radiation in Novosibirsk after finding the cure for Anna. Artyom is still rescued but succumbs to his radiation poisoning when there are not enough donors to give him blood. After he finally passes, he wakes up on a dark version of the Aurora, in his room.

In 2033 he survives both endings, but the last light ending has him die by sacrificing himself and blowing up D6 to prevent the Reds from taking the station. The other alternative ending has him survive which then leads to the story of metro exodus.

After Miller's death in the games, he succeeds him and becomes the new leader of the Spartan Order, provided he survives. Artyom, born shortly before the nuclear bombing occurred, was raised underground in Timiryazevskaya station until it was overrun by a massive horde of rats. Since then, he lives with his adoptive father Sukhoi in VDNKh.
