The ARAK Collection invites art writers and cultural researchers to apply for a three-day writing workshop in Lusaka, Zambia. Organised in collaboration with and held at the Lusaka Contemporary ArtCentre (LUCAC) @lusaka_contemporary the workshop will run from Friday, 14 February — Sunday, 16 February 2025.

ARAK Collection is an independent, Qatari-based initiative collecting Contemporary African Art.

The Qatar-based ARAK Collection holds over 4,000 works of contemporary African art. The more than 100 works presented here provide a comprehensive overview of continental trends. Each artist receives a biographical essay written by Ghanian researcher and curator Nneoma Angela Okorie, and South African art historian Barnabas Ticha Muvhuti.

Through considered editorial decisions and engaging prose, African Art: The ARAK Collection places African art, and indeed the continent itself, at the centre of the world, and demonstrates why the rest of the globe is beginning to shift its focus toward the work of African artists.

The ARAK Collection is an independent, Qatari-based effort committed to fostering critical dialogue around contemporary art practices, with a focus on African art through exhibitions, publications, research and educational programs. ARAK represents the initials of the private collector, AbdulRahman Al Khelaifi who is behind the initiative.
