Anapaite is a calcium–iron phosphate mineral with formula: Ca 2 Fe 2+ (PO 4) 2 ·4H 2 O. It is a mineral that typically occurs in cavities in fossil bearing sedimentary rocks. It is also found in phosphate bearing iron ores and rarely in pegmatites. It is commonly found with goethite, siderite and vivianite. [2]

Anapaite is rare and beautiful phosphate mineral. Or is it? Some mineral purists would dispute anapaite's inclusion into the mineral kingdom. The reason is that anapaite has a somewhat organic origin. In true pure mineralogical tradition, a mineral must have inorganic origins (ie. it is not made by a plant or animal).
