Amroha is a city in Uttar Pradesh. As per the 2011 census, Amroha had a population of 198,471. Population of children within the age group of 0–6 is 28323 which is 14.27% of the total population of Amroha (NPP). In Amroha Nagar Palika Parishad, the female sex ratio is of 925 against the state average of 912.

Amroha district is one of the 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh. Amroha was earlier a part of Moradabad district. On 15 April 1997, it was separated from Moradabad and made a new district. This district was named Jyotiba Phule Nagar, but in 2012 it was changed to Amroha.

There are three possible explanations for the name “Amroha”. The first theory is that it was settled during the time of Raj Amarjoda when sanskirt was common. Amroha is driven from the sanskirt word Amarwanam which means “place of aam (mangoes)”.
