One of the largest centres for train modernisation to ever be built in the UK has today been unveiled by Alstom. Situated in Widnes in the north west of England, the facility was opened by Parliamentary under-secretary of state at the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, Lord Prior of Brampton.

2017年6月29日 · A £21 million revolutionary rail technology hub set to create 600 jobs and bring train manufacture back to the north west opened in Widnes today. Railway engineer Alstom has unveiled the biggest and most sophisticated centre for train modernisation in the UK.

ALSTOM HAS opened its new rail technology centre at Widnes, which it says will be the largest rolling stock modernisation facility in the UK. The 13,000 square metre site will first work on a contract to repaint the 56-strong fleet of Class 390 Pendolinos, which were built by Alstom and are operated by Virgin Trains on the West Coast main line.

The Widnes facility is a large, flexible technology centre and workshop space just east of Liverpool. At the time of writing, among other contracts, the site is repainting the last dozen or so trains of the Class 390 Pendolino fleet.

At the heart of this plan was the opening in June 2017 of the UK’s first purpose-built inter-city modernisation facility, Alstom’s Transport Technology Centre in Widnes. The first contract for the site is the repainting of the 56-strong Virgin Trains Class 390 Pendolino fleet, but the company says the site is much more than a place where ...
