2023年9月6日 · There are currently two Comeng types in service - Westcode (EDi) Comeng & Knorr (Alstom) Comeng. The Chopper Comengs have all been scrapped. The Westcode (EDi) uses tread brakes, which push a brake block against the tread of the wheel causing it to stop.

I asked this question a few months ago and here’s what I was told.

In 1999 Connex got Alstom in North Ballarat to refurbish half of the Comeng fleet. The program was a long process but was worth it. From 1999 to 2004 half of the Connex Comeng fleet was refurbished. Alstom has been awarded a contract by Public Transport Victoria (PTV) to supply 175 bogie frames for part of the fleet of Comeng trains, operating on the Melbourne suburban rail network. The new frames will replace the ones of the existing bogies originally manufactured by Commonwealth Engineering between 1981 and 1988.
