2023年9月6日 · There are currently two Comeng types in service - Westcode (EDi) Comeng & Knorr (Alstom) Comeng. The Chopper Comengs have all been scrapped. The Westcode (EDi) uses tread brakes, which push a brake block against the tread of the wheel causing it to stop.

Comeng trains are single deck and are semi-permanently coupled as M-T-M (motor-trailer-motor) sets. Most frequently, they are coupled as M-T-M-M-T-M (six-car) sets. Comeng trains have power operated doors that must be pulled open by hand but are closed by the driver.

One particularity whining noise was the Mitsubishi motor-alternators beneath the later disc braked Comeng trains (only Alstom refurbished this type). The motor-alternators are used to convert 1500 V DC to 415 V AC for air conditioning and auxiliaries onboard the train.

2023年8月29日 · Between 2007 (Project Concorde integrated the PIDS between Alstom and EDI Comeng) and 2020 (Comeng Life Extension project installed new PIDS in the Alstom units) it was incredibly common - there was no restrictions on mixing the two types. I asked this question a few months ago and here’s what I was told.

In 1999 Connex got Alstom in North Ballarat to refurbish half of the Comeng fleet. The program was a long process but was worth it. From 1999 to 2004 half of the Connex Comeng fleet was refurbished. The first set to be refurbished for 517M,1136T and 572M. These are some photos of Alstom Comeng on the bottom.

Alstom has been awarded a contract by Public Transport Victoria (PTV) to supply 175 bogie frames for part of the fleet of Comeng trains, operating on the Melbourne suburban rail network. The new frames will replace the ones of the existing bogies originally manufactured by Commonwealth Engineering between 1981 and 1988.

The Comeng Life Extension project commenced in 2017 to update the interior and exterior of Melbourne's fleet of Comeng trains in order to keep them in service until 2022-27.
