Alnmouth beach sits in a wide sandy bay at the mouth of the River Aln (hence the name!). On the north bank of the river, behind the beach is the pretty little village of Alnmouth, a clutch of elegant red-roofed houses that almost spills down to the sand.

Alnmouth is a village on the north-east coast of England, some 29 miles (47 km) due north of Newcastle upon Tyne, 31 miles (50 km) south-south-east of Berwick Upon Tweed, and 4.1 miles (6.6 km) to the east-south-east of Alnwick.

Moving North up the Northumberland coast from Warkworth, the winding road of the coastal route offers spectacular views of the next stop along the coastal journey, Alnmouth. The village is almost picture postcard perfect with its colourful cottages, at it's best on a sunny day when the tide is out revealing the vast expanses of golden sand.

At the point where the River Aln empties into the North Sea lies the small village of Alnmouth. Once a busy port, it's now a much-loved place for a seaside holiday. Which you'll understand the moment you see the large sandy beach! It was this beach that drew us to Alnmouth on a sunny March Saturday morning for breakfast with a view.

The beach and natural beauty of the area around Alnmouth lends itself perfectly to an enjoyable walk. One of our favourites in the County is a short walk that starts in Alnmouth and circumnavigates the Village, taking in views of the beach, the estuary and the River Aln.
