Alfred Henry Sturtevant (November 21, 1891 – April 5, 1970) was an American geneticist. Sturtevant constructed the first genetic map of a chromosome in 1911. Throughout his career he worked on the organism Drosophila melanogaster with Thomas Hunt Morgan. [2]

Alfred Henry Sturtevant was an American geneticist who in 1913 developed a technique for mapping the location of specific genes of the chromosomes in the fruit fly Drosophila. Sturtevant received his Ph.D. degree (1914) from Columbia University.

Sturtevant was a Professor of Biology at Cal Tech until 1951. He received the National Medical of Science in 1967 for his work on Drosophila genetics. Alfred Sturtevant, one of Morgan's students, did most of the work on the Drosophila linkage maps.
