The Old Town is an archaeological site near al-Ula, Medina Province, Saudi Arabia. [1] It is known as the Dira (Arabic: دِيرَة, romanized: dīra, lit. 'town'). Inside the Deira are ancient heritage buildings, mosques(masjid), and markets, dating back about seven centuries. [2] This town is 22 kilometres (14 mi) away from Hegra. [3]

2024年11月6日 · Al Ula - Old Town, also known as Deira, is an archaeological site near Al Ula in the Madina Province. It is one of the main attractions in Al-Ula as it consists of many ancient heritage buildings, mosques, and markets. All these ruins date back to about seven centuries, according to historians, and the town was inhabited up until the early 1980s.

In the 13th century, the old city of AlUla, locally known as al-Dīrah, was built, and many stones of the old Dedanite and Lihyanite ruins were reused. The oasis of AlUla now became the major settlement of the region again until modern times.

Walk along Old Town Market Street and follow in the millennia-old footsteps of the merchants who once traversed this ancient trade route. A historic marketplace still thrives here today, where you can browse everything from local handicrafts to elegant antiques, shop for souvenirs or just enjoy a freshly squeezed juice and a pleasant stroll.

With its labyrinth of tightly packed streets, hundreds of mudbrick buildings, and a colossal watchtower fort, Old Town is one of Northwest Arabia’s most impressive heritage sites.
