About OIT. The streamlining and consolidation of governmental functions is a crucial priority and of great significance to the economic well-being of the State of Alabama. In line with that goal, OIT was formed in 2013 to streamline information technology in the state.

Daniel Urquhart was appointed Secretary of the Alabama Office of Information Technology (OIT) by Governor Kay Ivey on July 1, 2023. Urquhart assumes this position after serving the state of Alabama for more than two decades, having spent the last three years as OIT’s deputy secretary.

OIT offers a wide range of IT services to Alabama state agencies to help them carry out their respective missions more effectively and efficiently. These services are organized into categories with multiple processes and products available within each one.

Information technology is intended to support agency missions and business needs. With this goal as a preconception, and in accordance with the authority and duties assigned to OIT by State of Alabama Legislation, OIT presents policies, standards, and guidelines for the management of state information resources.
