Upon his return, Harutomo falls in love with Aki-hime, the daughter of a wealthy samurai named Zakoji, who becomes another mentor. He courts the young woman with poetry and earns Zakoji’s respect. Meanwhile, Takeda is ailing, and turmoil grows when the warlord dies.

Aki-hime was the lovely daughter of an old samurai who served Lord Akiyama. Who supported a match between Murakami and Aki-Hime? Yoichi encouraged it. Wada Kansuke seemed tolerant. Zakogi (her father) implied there was a future. What obstacle stood in the way for marriage for Marakami? She was more high-born than Murakami.

Harutomo realizes a more prominent man than he is likely to marry Aki-hime, whose father is rich. He daydreams that Akiyama gives him land and suggests him as a suitor for the young woman. Later, he thinks that he doesn’t have a chance with Aki-hime, especially since her father held a high rank as the district tax collector.

Aki-hime A young girl of noble blood, whom Harutomo loves, and youngest daughter of Lord Zakoji. She likes Harutomo, and she obeys her father, doesn't write letter, and if she writes letters, she only does it in her father's presence.
