Akamuro is a lowland rice variety from Hokkaido Japan. The name translated means "red icehouse". This variety is early maturing at about 100 days from transplanting, and is also known for its cold tolerance and can be grown in zones as low as 4b. This short grain variety is awned and has red bran.

Akamuro Rice. This heirloom variety was developed in Japan to meet their cool, dry growing conditions. It’s a small red rice variety that smells particularly good.
