Air mass - Wikipedia
In meteorology, an air mass is a volume of air defined by its temperature and humidity. Air masses cover many hundreds or thousands of square miles, and adapt to the characteristics of the surface below them. They are classified according to latitude and their continental or maritime source regions.

An air mass forms whenever the atmosphere remains in contact with a large, relatively uniform land or sea surface for a time sufficiently long to acquire the temperature and moisture properties of that surface. The Earth’s major air masses originate in polar or subtropical latitudes.

2023年6月5日 · An air mass is a large body of air with generally uniform temperature and humidity. The area over which an air mass originates is what provides its characteristics. The longer the air mass stays over its source region, the more likely it …

2024年12月13日 · Air mass is the meteorological term for a volume of air with a constant temperature and humidity covering an area. It varies in size from hundreds to thousands of miles. It remains positioned over a region for extended periods and, as a result, takes on the characteristics of the surface it covers.

2023年10月19日 · Air masses can extend thousands of kilometers in any direction, and can reach from ground level to the stratosphere—16 kilometers (10 miles) into the atmosphere. Air masses are large volumes of air that have generally the same temperature and pressure. Unstable air masses have different temperatures and pressures.
Air Masses: Meaning and Classification | Climatology | Geography
“An air mass may be defined as a large body of air whose physical properties, especially temperature, moisture content, and lapse rate, are more or less uniform horizontally for hundreds of kilometres”.

2024年10月3日 · Air masses can be defined as a large body of air, usually, 1600kms or more, characterized by homogenous physical properties like temperature, and moisture content at a given height. A parcel of air must meet three criteria in order to be recognised as a distinct air mass: It must be quite large.

2019年7月3日 · An air mass is not only large (it can be thousands of miles across and thick), it has uniform temperature (hot or cold) and moisture (humid or dry) properties too. As air masses are "pushed" around the globe by wind, they transport their warm, cool, humid, or dry conditions from place to place.

2022年2月19日 · An air mass is a vast pool of air having similar temperature and moisture characteristics over its horizontal extent. An air mass occupies thousands of square miles of the Earth's surface. Air masses are born in a source region where they take on their characteristic temperature and moisture content.

2022年2月28日 · What is an air mass? It is defined as a large body of air having little horizontal variation in temperature and moisture. The air masses have a relatively uniform distribution of vertical gradients in their physical properties like temperature, pressure, and humidity. How does an air mass originate?
