2007年10月3日 · Agathis is also called "commercial grade mahogany". Pretty good name because companies can say the guitar is made from mahogany but it really is not. Lots of "mahogany" MIK guitars are really agathis. I am more of a "traditional" tone wood kind of guy for guitars but I have had a few agathis guitars that rocked hard.

2006年12月7日 · Agathis just doesn't have any character, it's quite playable but needs some fancy EQ to sound really good. I bought a Squier Affinity Fat Strat about a year ago as a backup guitar.

2006年4月7日 · Agathis has been labelled crap wood by many because of it's abundance in a part of the world where cheap guitars are built. Naturally it gets associated with low quality instruments that sound bad and/or play bad...and people surmise agathis is dead. I only own one agathis guitar and it aint dead.

2008年1月24日 · Agathis is indeed a wood. It's meant to be like alder. It's an Asian wood so it's typically cheaper for Asian builders than alder hence its use in many low-price guitars these days as an upgrade from plywood. I've got a Squier Jagmaster made of agathis and it seems reasonable; not fantastic, but reasonable.
