In Greek mythology, Acrisius (/ ə ˈ k r aɪ s i ə s /; Ancient Greek: Ἀκρίσιος means 'ill-judgment' [1]) was a king of Argos. He was the grandfather of the famous Greek demi-god Perseus .

In Greek mythology, Acrisius was the king of Argos, son of Abas and Aglaea and twin brother of Proetus. When their father died, Acrisius slyly possessed all of the inheritance and expelled his brother. However, assisted by his father – in – law Iobates, Proetus managed to take his share of the kingdom and became the ruler of the city of Tiryns.

Acrisius was a legendary king of Greek mythology. Acrisius was a king of Argos, though today Acrisius is best known as the father of Danae.

When Acrisius learnt of Perseus and Danae whereabouts, he went to Polydectes, who, however, interfered on behalf of the boy, and the latter promised not to kill his grandfather. Acrisius, however, was detained in Seriphos by storms, and during that time Polydectes died.
