2024年8月25日 · Leave the acorns on top (unless getting some grubs out of the sand) as insulation and for the moisture in them. Certainly experiment with another bucket if you want. We sorted the acorns grubs had left (see exit holes) and discarded them before. Outside of opening some to see what the grubs had done inside it really wasn't necessary.

Do acorns, in a typical year, remain a substantial food source much past November? I can imagine in a bumper crop year, the acorns lasting longer and in a lean year, vice versa.
