Abarkuh (Persian: ابركوه) [a] is a city in the Central District of Abarkuh County, Yazd province, Iran, serving as capital of both the county [4] and the district. A folk etymology of the name Abarquh, related by Hamdallah Mustawfi in 1340, is from bar kūh, meaning "on the mountain".

Abarkuh is a city with numerous magnificent mud houses and an antiquity of at least 4.000 years which was once the crossroad of the Silk Road.
