2025年1月22日 · SHAH ALAM: RMAF has sent a second leased AW139 helicopter to the Kuching airbase as part of the No 3 Skuadron detachment there. Tail number M104-05 arrived at Kuching on January 20, a RMAF release on January 21, stated. Based on the release, it is likely that the detachment will be permanent and all four leased AW139s will be in Kuching eventually.

This marks another key step in strengthening the RMAF’s operational capabilities in East Malaysia.

In November 2021, the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) leased 4 civilian AW139 helicopters from Weststar as an interim measure and stop-gap after the retiring of the S-61 Nuri fleet. RMAF long-term plan is to eventually acquire 24 new helicopters with combat-search and rescue (CSAR) capabilities between 2026-2035.
