"A12 Hackney to M11 link road", as it was officially called, was part of a significant local road scheme to connect traffic from the East Cross Route (A12) in Hackney Wick to the M11 via Leyton, Leytonstone, Wanstead and the Redbridge Roundabout, avoiding urban streets.

The incident has led to the closure on the North Circular Southbound near the A12 by Redbridge Roundabout on Thursday afternoon (December 7). As a result, there are delays up to the Hackney Marshes.

From there the A12 runs north to Bow, then Hackney Wick. The road then heads northeast through Leyton and Romford into Essex past Brentwood and Colchester. When the road reaches Suffolk it connects to Ipswich and Saxmundham before navigating the coast through to Lowestoft.

The A12 is covered by Highways England 's A12 and A120 Route Management Strategy. Starting just north of the Blackwall Tunnel, where it connects end on to the A102, it heads north through Bow and Hackney Wick, then north-east through Leyton and Romford, then into Essex, passing Brentwood and Colchester.
