2017年2月26日 · Looking for a better controller I’ve learned the popular LSI 9211-8i, which is optimal for my setup as well (8xHDD). The only disadvantage of the card is the IR firmware, which shall be overwritten at home by the IT version. People out there claimed with a lot of frustration attempting to overwrite the firmware.

Then off every other port Ive tried using known working sas to sata breakout cables to the drives.

2017年3月27日 · The 9211-8i is plenty capable of running a ton of drives. Each SAS channel is 6Gbps and the card has 8 of them. So effectively, there is 8GBps available in the card. PCI-e 2.0 8x cannot even handle the full bandwidth of the card.

2021年12月17日 · Sadly i have a problem with the "LSI MegaRAID SAS 9211-8i (LSI00194)" card i got, which is suggested/recommended (?). Sometimes TrueNAS boots fine, but only a single of four installed WD drives is shown (all WD-Drives are attached to the LSI-Card, SSD are attached to the mainboard as boot, NVMe sofar unused).

2017年6月4日 · For Dell variants of the 9211-8i, the A10 9211-8e firmware is known to work well as an IT firmware to flash in this step, as explained and linked above. The filename within the download is 6GBPSAS.FW. Confusingly, Dell also use the same filename for their IR firmware, you have to check the download package for which it is.

2006年12月16日 · LSI 9240-8i LSI 9211-8i I have no need for RAID5 or 6 and cover my redundancy needs through backing up frequently (PC Images and filesync) to external drives. What I do need is to be able to keep adding HDs (larger than 2TB too) and be able to use a SAS expander in the future.
