The 37th FIS was first activated under ADC at Dow Field with P-47Ds in November 1946. The squadron transitioned into P-84Bs in October 1947 which were flown until deactivation in October 1949. The squadron was reactivated in November 1952 at Burlington Airport with F-51Ds, replacing the 134th FIS Vermont ANG.
