The 200 metres, or 200-meter dash, is a sprint running event. On an outdoor 400-metre racetrack, the race begins on the curve and ends on the home straight, so a combination of techniques is needed to successfully run the race.

The 200m sprint is a popular track and field event where athletes race around half of a standard 400m outdoor track. For this reason, it’s sometimes known as the ‘half-lap race’. As a short-distance running event, athletes use all their acceleration, speed and strength in a short but controlled explosion of energy.
