Porsche built just 55 examples of the original 2.8 RSR for the 1973 season, most sold to private racing teams. The RSR stood as the lightest, fastest, most powerful and most agile 911 ever to enter GT racing and the model immediately proved its worth in racing.

The Carrera RS was introduced in 1973 and homologated for Group 4 GT racing, with only 55 examples of the legendary and ultra-lightweight racing variant Carrera RSR 2.8 produced (RennSport Rennwagen), with many special features, including the highly tuned 2.8L flat-six, 5cm-wider front and rear wheel arches, and of course the iconic ducktail wing.

2024年3月26日 · The 911 Carrera 2.8 RSR was developed purely for competition and stood as the lightest, fastest, most powerful, and most agile 911 ever to have entered in GT racing. It was 176 pounds lighter than the legendary road-going Carrera RS, and its engine had close to 100 additional horsepower.

Fitted with fared wheel arches, a distinctive ducktail spoiler, and a highly tuned flat-six engine, the brilliant Carrera 2.7 RS is the model against which all subsequent high-performance 911s are judged.

Based upon the exclusive and already lightweight Carrera RS 2.7, the RSR 2.8 (option M491 in Porsche parlance) was offered for 1973. A further 80 kg was trimmed from the RS, while the nominal capacity increase of just 119 cc belied the myriad technical changes within.
