2024年8月26日 · The 2-6-6-2 wheel arrangement was well-liked for its ability to lug heavy loads at slow speeds and was manufactured in a variety of sizes depending on need. In its Whyte notation the locomotive featured two leading wheels, six drivers in two sets, and two trailing wheels.

The USRA 2-6-6-2 is a standardized design of 2-6-6-2 Mallet locomotives developed by the United States Railroad Administration during World War I.

Its design, with the articulated frame, permitted a powerful locomotive to negotiate the often sinuous track found in mountainous territory. The first Mallet of American design was an 0-6-6-0 built by Alco for the Baltimore & Ohio in 1904.
