Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme (CDS Vic) increases the recycling of drink cans, bottles and cartons and reduces Victoria’s litter by offering a financial reward for returning drink containers for recycling. It lowers clean-up costs for councils and makes producers more responsible for their products once used.

Look for the 10c mark on the drink container label. It is often located near the barcode. Most carbonated water, flavoured water, soft drink and energy drink bottles and cans between 200 - 750 ml are eligible. Most fruit and vegetable juice bottles, cans and cartons between 150 ml and 1 Litre are eligible.

From November 2023, Victorians will be able to recycle cans, cartons and bottles and be paid 10c for each. The scheme provides charities, community groups, environmental organisations, sports groups and educational organisations with ways to raise funds.

Eligible drink containers are those that are commonly found in the litter stream and are smaller, more portable containers. Check the label for the ‘10c’ refund mark to see whether a container is eligible and can be returned through the ACT Container Deposit Scheme (ACT CDS).*
