SPEAKER WIRE = 14 AWG or 12 AWG? - AVS Forum
2007年12月2日 · American Wire Gauge (e.g. 14 AWG) refers to how many turns per inch the bare wire covers. So for that example, 14 turns in one inch means the wire is 1/14" diameter, without insulation. 10 gauge wire would be 1/10" (0.10 in) and so on. So the LOWER the gauge number, the thicker the wire. Here, 10 gauge is noticeably thicker than 14 gauge.

2018年8月5日 · Shortly after you posted your first reply, I read your post and noted that the roger-russell wiring chart, referenced in your post, shows 80' for 14 awg. I went to the calculator, also referenced in your post, and the calculator shows 0.303-Ohms for 120' of 14 awg and 0.336-Ohms for 133' of 14 awg. So, your reference differs from Russound's specs.
Any problem with mixing speaker wire gauges? - AVS Forum
2005年9月27日 · The reason someone thought you had it backwards was because you stated that since you had short runs, a thicker wire would suffice. It'd be easy to misconstru that to mean you thought thicker wire was better for shorter runs. But like everyone said, unless you're dealing with 25 to 50 ft runs, you won't notice a difference.
Number of strands in speaker wire - AVS Forum
2007年10月13日 · Since speaker wire is rarely moved once installed, it's not real important. I use some 10GA high strand count wire for high-current 12V power, and it's a joy to use, but I wouldn't pay more for this in speaker wire. In-wall on a new house, I'd be tempted to use Romex for speaker wire, but that probably violates code.
Speaker wire gauge, 10 or 12? - AVS Forum
2005年12月5日 · Okay, then per the chart I directed you to, for 4-ohm loudspeakers I'd recommend you go with 14 AWG cable for the front three, and at least 12 AWG for the longer rear runs. (As noted, I use 10 AWG all around, which is overkill as my longest run is only 20 feet; however, for 30-foot runs 10 AWG wouldn't be a completely bad idea, as the actual ...
