Founded in 2007, the OpenID Foundation (OIDF) is a global open standards body committed to helping people assert their identity wherever they choose. We are global vibrant community where identity peers and thought leaders convene to craft the identity ecosystems of tomorrow.

OpenID Connect enables an Internet identity ecosystem through easy integration and support, security and privacy-preserving configuration, interoperability, wide support of clients and devices, and enabling any entity to be an OpenID Provider (OP).

The OpenID Foundation’s vision is to help people assert their identity wherever they choose. And our mission is to lead the global community in creating identity standards that are secure, interoperable, and privacy-preserving.

OpenID specifications are developed by working groups in three phases: Drafts, Implementer’s Drafts, and Final Specifications. Implementer’s Drafts and Final Specifications provide intellectual property protections to implementers. Final Specifications are OpenID Foundation standards.

OpenID is an easy and safe way for people to reuse an existing account and user profile from an identity provider, for example Apple, Google, or Microsoft to sign-in to any OpenID-enabled applications and websites without creating a new registration and password.

The OpenID Foundation enables deployments of OpenID Connect and the Financial-grade API (FAPI) Read/Write Profile to be certified to specific conformance profiles to promote interoperability among implementations.

OpenID Provider: OP. An OpenID Authentication server on which a Relying Party relies for an assertion that the end user controls an Identifier. OP Endpoint URL: The URL which accepts OpenID Authentication protocol messages, obtained by performing discovery on the User-Supplied Identifier.

2024年10月7日 · The OpenID Connect Final specification was launched on February 26, 2014 with a vision of increased security, privacy, and usability on the internet. Ten years after that publication, we are delighted to announce that 9 OpenID Connect specifications are now published as ISO/IEC standards.

The AB/Connect working group is a combined working group of the Artifact Binding (AB) Working Group and the Connect Working Group aimed at producing the OAuth 2.0 based “OpenID Connect” specifications. It also includes a project named OpenID for Verifiable Credentials which consists of three specifications.
