2020年12月10日 · The Hiwatt style amp/tone stack is now my absolute favorite of everything I have tried. To me it has a really raw, punchy tone that accentuates the natural characteristics of the instrument.

2009年2月28日 · I've owned and restored five Hiwatt amps with great success. Among new amps, Reeves and MYWATT seem to be the best options. Like nysbob said, The Who's Live at Leeds album (1970) is a good showcase of Hiwatt tones, for both bass and guitar. I recommend the "Deluxe Edition" of that album since it has the whole performance.

2020年3月1日 · I've seen reviews that they don't sound much like Hiwatt. As for the cabinets - I think the HG412 would actually make a nice one, as long as you don't crank the subs so the speaker coils fall out.

2020年10月26日 · The early and mid 70s amps with four inputs ran an ECC81 (12AT7) in the phase inverter. The late 70s amps with two inputs ran an ECC83 in the phase inverter. Apparently there was a Hiwatt 100W badged bass amp that was made in the mid to late 80s.

2004年6月9日 · So that's something to be aware of. But V4 should be the only 12AT7 in these amps, which means it should be easy to locate anyway (provided that the correct tubes are already installed in the correct positions). I should stress that all of the above is based on my experience with actual Hiwatt amps. I've never played a Reeves.

2017年6月15日 · Hiwatt Bulldog SA112 AP/OL Fane combo 50w 1983 black Not the "worst" Hiwatt, really; I had one of those late '80s 100-watt bass amps — single input, two channel, solid distortion, monster transformers (Drakes?). Sorry I gave it up. Doesn't sound like a Hylight, Biacrown, 2000s-present remake or Reeves, Hi-Tone, Harry Joyce remake, etc.

2011年8月15日 · Having gotten under the hood of these amps quite a bit, and built my own guitar amp for the fun of it, I don't think there is anything magic about what brand is put on a hiwatt re-creation. My opinion, the output transformer is the biggest contributer to sound quality--mercury magnetics makes good ones.

2009年7月24日 · The Hiwatt legacy was much higher quality amps designed to be clean, vs Marshall's designed to break up. The VBA400 sounds Marshally, easy to drive, the proper Hiwatt 200s, from the 70s, were clean machines, what comes out is determined by what goes in.
