6024 King Edward I is a preserved Great Western Railway (GWR) 6000 Class steam locomotive operated from 1930 to 1962 by the Great Western Railway and latterly British Railways hauling express passenger services.

Built at GWR's Swindon Works in June 1930, for most of its working life it was allocated to Plymouth Laira shed. Transferred to Old Oak Common, London, in March 1959, and finally to Cardiff Canton in 1962. 6024 was fitted new cylinders and in November 1957, with its chimney and blast-pipe modifications.

The Great Western Railway (GWR) 6000 Class or King Class is a class of 4-6-0 steam locomotives designed for express passenger work and introduced in 1927. They were the largest locomotives built by the GWR, apart from the unique Pacific (The Great Bear).

2023年2月23日 · The 6024 Preservation Society has released an update on 6024 King Edward I, as the locomotive heads towards returning to steam. Today, 23rd February 2023, it is planned that the GWR ‘King’ will leave Minehead on the West Somerset Railway by road, headed for LNWR (Heritage) at Crewe .

The ex GWR King Class 4-6-0 No. 6024 "King Edward I" was steamed for the first time since April 2012 on the 4th of August 2022, for its steam test which the locomotive successfully passed. Now in the final stages of its overhaul, it is expected that No. 6024 will be operational in the Autumn for testing and running in trials.

2020年5月1日 · The 6024 Preservation Society Ltd, custodians of Great Western Railway (GWR) 6000 ‘King’ Class No.6024 “King Edward I” on behalf of owners the Royal Scot Locomotive and General Trust, have released an update on the overhaul progress on 6024 “King Edward I” at Minehead Locomotive Workshop on the West Somerset Railway.

In April 2011 at Didcot Railway Centre King Edward I meet the newly restored No. 6023 King Edward II for the first time since December 1962. The locomotive has subsequently moved to the West Somerset Railway for its 10 year boiler overhaul, the boiler being lifted in June 2012.
