2024年8月25日 · Mineral spirits and linseed oil "shine juice" works really well to bring back old faded black trim plastic like a BMW grill. I like it better than trim black paint as you can just re-coat down the road rather than having to strip off paint when it starts to fade.

2022年11月5日 · Citristrip is about the same as Safenol on clearcoat but works MUCH better on colored wheel paint. It still takes at least 3x applications and scraping. 1-qt of Citristrip is probably enough for a set of 4x half-clear/half-painted 15in or 16in Subaru wheels.

The goal is to remove any obvious ridges between the old clear coat and the base paint layer, as well as to scuff up the entire surface to give the new clear something to adhere to. Then remove the hood and stand it up vertically and paint with a catalyzed 2k clear coat. Wear breathing apparatus for the painting.

2020年6月13日 · I found touch up paint in a can that is an exact match and impossible to tell I made a repair after I spray the clear coat. It was a base coat/clear coat and the clear I'm using is a two part clear so I use a spray gun. I find that clear in a can just will not hold up over time. It turns milky and dull unless you buff it yearly.

2020年12月22日 · The clear is peeling from my mercedes, base is still alright. I hit it with polishing compound to blend and polish it take out the opaque clear down. The problem is I don't think the base coat has hardener in it so it is really soft and seems to scratch and blemish easily. Basically, it is what it is, it will look better than failed clear coat.

2024年5月7日 · My son and I are building his e36 and a few of the panels have shot clear coat. The car is black and instead of buying paint store supplies that would have added up to a few hundred dollars I decided just to blast it with Turbo cans. $15 at lowes and I only needed 3 cans. I took some time to prep the car correctly. Fist off, it sprays very messy.

2016年10月19日 · Meguiar's Cleaner Wax worked pretty well on the E24. It needed another coat every couple of months, but it helped a lot. It wouldn't help the pealing clear, but it would give the paint below it a shine. By the same token, it wouldn't do anything for the dead paint on the hood of the Samurai. You might try a small spot and see what happens.

2012年9月4日 · The Gas Monkey guys, on the show "Fast N Loud", painted a '50 Olds. They sprayed "flat clear" over the weathered paint and light surface rust. It turned out pretty nice for the cheap $$$. I know you can add a flattening agent to regular clear to make it more of a matte finish. I supose you can buy "flat clear" also....not confirmed, but I think so?

I was really losing interest until they taught me it was okay to just drive 'em and not restore 'em. Not painting this, ever, though I did use the wipe on clear coat. V8 swap this winter.
