I installed a NMEA 2000 network linked to the eng's through a Mercury Gateway device (not Vessel View). On the Simrad I can go to Settings/Device List and see the Gateway Can-P multi. It's status is "OK".

You just need to make sure you get the correct adapter cable for SmartCraft. if your can-p gateway is a smartcraft gateway, that gateway must be powered from one (and only one) of your engines.
