They decided on Addison Airport, located in a largely industrial area in the nearby town of Addison. The 1989 event was held on May 12–14 on a new temporary 2.53 km (1.57 mi) circuit built partially on public streets and partially on taxiways and the south end of the runway.

After Fair Park, the Dallas Grand Prix moved Addison, Texas in 1989 (topmost map). The circuit was designed by Alan Wilson of Wilson Motorsport, who also designed the Reunion circuit (shown 2nd), which was used for the Dallas Grand Prix in 1994.

In 1990 and 1991, Addison hosted the Grand Prix, with over 100,000 spectators.. The 1.57 mile course took the cars along Addison Road, through Addison Parkway, Taxiway Alpha and the runway.

The Dallas Grand Prix was the ninth race of the Formula One season, and the second American race in a row. Two weeks earlier was the Detroit Grand Prix. The temporary street circuit would take the drivers around the site of the Texas State Fair, which included the Cotton Bowl.
