USS Mercury (AK-42) was a cargo ship commissioned by the U.S. Navy for service in World War II. She was responsible for delivering necessary goods and equipment to ships and stations in the war zone.

Operational control of AK-42 was passed to ComServPac in January 1944 for service with the 5th Amphibious Force and she subsequently supported several major amphibious assault operations by carrying both troops and their equipment to landing sites.

Photographed in 1942 or early 1943. In San Francisco Bay on 16 March 1943 after minor alterations, including the conversion of her forward kingpost pair to a goalpost mast. Underway circa the late 1940s. By this time both ships had lost their kingpost pairs on the superstructure. Photo No. None.
