" Elaan of Troyius " is the thirteenth episode of the third season of the American science fiction television series Star Trek. Written and directed by John Meredyth Lucas, it was first broadcast on December 20, 1968. In the episode, the Enterprise ferries a spoiled princess whose betrothal, it is hoped, will bring peace to a star system at war.

The Dohlman of Elas was a royal title of great privilege and prerogative, held in high regard by the Elasians, however, the position did have to answer to the Elasian Council of Nobles. The proper honorific in addressing her was "Your Glory." Elaan held the title of Dohlman in 2268.

Petri, the somewhat fussy Troyian ambassador, says the next step is to pick up the "Dohlman", the person most feared and hated by Troyians. The Dohlman is a small woman, Elaan, the ruler of Elas, who commands absolute obedience. She is accompanied by a group of huge, powerful men, who wear body armor and carry nuclear hand weapons.

Elaan was the Dohlman of Elas, and a member of the Elasian royal family in the 2260s. Elaan possessed a formidable combination of qualities: considerable physical beauty, a position of high privilege and prerogative, and influence over the will of men (via Elasian tears).
