But we specifically make this shape too, in general designs, using rounded rectangles and not strokes. This shape might be an important, big, and bold part of the layout. This adds a circular perimeter around rectangular/square pictures with a fading edge. There's a set of Soft Edge Options... to play around with to change the size of the soft edge. However, there doesn't seem to be a way to modify the "shape" of the soft edge around such a rectangular image.
