The Avenger Air Defense System, designated AN/TWQ-1 under the Joint Electronics Type Designation System, is an American self-propelled surface-to-air missile system which provides mobile, short-range air defense protection for ground units against cruise missiles, unmanned aerial vehicles, low-flying fixed-wing aircraft, and helicopters.

The AN/TWQ-1 Avenger, also known as the M1097 Avenger, is a self-propelled short-range air defense system designed to engage low-flying aerial threats such as helicopters and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

The AN/TWQ-1 Avenger Air Defense Vehicle was initially a private venture by the Boeing Company, although based upon U.S. Military interest and requirements. The base vehicle used for the system was initially the M1037 Shelter Carrier (without winch) and later the M1097 Heavy Hummer Variant (HHV) (possibly the A1 production model).

The Avenger air defense system (AN/TWQ-1 or M1097), developed by American companies Boeing (for the missile system) and General Electric (for the chassis), was designed for the U.S. Armed Forces in the 1980s and unveiled in September 1990 at the Farnborough International Military Technical Exhibition.
