During his lifetime, Lynes amassed a substantial body of work involving nude and homoerotic photography. In the 1930s, he began taking nudes of friends, performers, and models, including a young Yul Brynner, although these remained private, unknown, and unpublished for years. [2] .

From the late 1920s until his death in 1955, George Platt Lynes was one of the world’s most successful commercial and fine art photographers. In 1932, Lynes’s work was included in one of the first exhibitions to showcase photography at the Museum of Modern Art.

In 1941, just one year after moving to the United States from Russia, Yul Brynner made his Broadway debut in Shakespeare’s The Twelfth Night. This proved to be a successful Broadway opening and helped lead Brynner to future roles, despite newly learning English.
