2024年10月17日 · Aroclor is a PCB mixture produced from approximately 1930 to 1979. It is one of the most commonly known trade names for PCB mixtures. There are many types of Aroclors and each has a distinguishing suffix number that indicates the degree of chlorination.

Aroclor was the most common trade name for PCBs in the United States. PCB mixtures were named according to their chlorine content, Aroclor 1254 containing 54% chlorine by weight, and Aroclor 1260 containing 60%.

Monsanto Corporation, the major U.S. producer of PCBs from 1930 to 1977, marketed mixtures of PCBs under the trade name Aroclor. The Aroclors are identified by a four-digit numbering code in which the first two digits indicate the type of mixture and the last two digits indicate the approximate chlorine content by weight percent.

A 1996 study found liver tumors in female rats exposed to Aroclors 1260, 1254, 1242, and 1016, and in male rats exposed to 1260. These mixtures contain overlapping groups of congeners that, together, span the range of congeners most often found in environmental mixtures.
